reading the world

I read a lot of books by white American authors, based in American or European settings, and I think it's important to broaden my horizons -- I want to travel the world, but I also want to learn about it.

So, I'm going to document the places that I travel to through reading, and in order to do that, I've compiled a list of UN-recognized countries (plus a few others). My current plan is to list books under the country in which they are set, marking them with an * if the author has lived in that country and an ** if the author is from that country. All linked titles go to my reviews. If there is a mistake in the list below, or if I have left out your country/territory, please let me know!

Note: The listing of books set in the U.S. and fantasy books written in a setting based on a real country will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the list below.
